The Intergalactic Highway

So, it's snowed the night before last!......and so we enter that time of year when turmoil grips the British people, for some reason.

My uni is shut today, due to heavy snowfall.....a few inches. Now I'm not saying snow doesn't cause a few problems, but there are countries in Northern Europe and indeed the Americas who look at 10 inches of snow and say 'Pooh. 'Tis nothing!'

It's weird though. Anyone here who is in Blightly have it bad? I hear up north people are properly snowed in like my poor grandad in Scotland. In Kingston it's only about 4 to 5 inches, but along the same latitude line in Bromley they have 10 inches. My sister's been snowed in since yesterday

I'm in the south so we haven't had a lot yet, which I'm glad about

I think the British just like an excuse to stay home from work/school. If they hype up the so-called risks of driving in a small flurry of snow, then everyone gets to benefit from Health and Safety gone mad.

South Africa gets snow inland, much heavier. According to my dad, who commuted a lot, they have the roads cleared within an hour of it snowing and people get on with their day. But then, South Africans have more public holidays than England, so maybe they don't need the snow days.

We haven't had a snow day in decades...

But then again, this is Alberta. I always find it highly amusing when people freak about about a few snowflakes. I guess that comes with having it 6-8 months of the year.

Actually, shockingly, I would not. Not just yet. Even just this few inches has caused havoc for those of us studying the arts....by that I mean I have less than two weeks to prepare for, wait for it, FOUR performances And the members of my various groups are scattered across London. Pah.

I do love snow! Last year I was elated when it snowed, I took some loooovely photos today .........but not when I have places to be. The stress is building up with the snow!

Funny, a few hours after I posted that we started getting another dump. Returned to sender?

Amazingly not alot of snow in New york yet either.. we had some sprinkles but it mostly melted.. Finally got the snow-thrower fixed last night at least. Had to order the power belt for it from a company that sells factory parts since they no longer use that sorta thing on snow-throwers.

about 25 F out, but hopefully it'll warm up into the mid 30s or so.

Feel free to come to Sydney for a nice warm Xmas/New Year holiday. The weather here's been really nice this year. We've had a lot of rain (with more forecast to come), but otherwise it's not bad. It's usually ridiculously hot and stinking this time of year where we usually MELT during the Xmas/New Year period, but so far it's actually not been too bad. Temperature's been in the 20s (about 26 degrees today) so it's really nice. Touch wood and hope that it'll stay this way over the summer holidays... (-_-)

But it's a lot better than most other years where we spend most of the time camped in front of an air conditioner drowning in our own sweat. And we have frequent Transformer fan meets in Sydney (as well as Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) - and we're always happy to have international fans attend our meets (I've personally attended meets with TF fans from New Zealand, the United States and Japan ).

Lol, Goktimus, I know how you feel. I used to live in Kuwait The only time you'd see people around (in and around summer, mind you) is in their cars on the way to air conditioned malls, which are boring as heck, but at least it's 'out' I'm going back there for Christmas, but I don't know what to expect, usually it's nippy, but the way the world has been (i.e. snowing in England in early December, wut?) it could start hailing, who knows

To those of you who get snow on a yearly-ish basis.....what's January like for you? It's going to be hell-frozen-over here, even if it doesn't snow Though it had better, it wouldn't be worth it otherwise

Cold, snowy and icy.

The snow is actually pretty late this year. We've been getting it, but it hasn't been the total immersion of snow that normally comes this time of year- our roads and sidewalks are clear. But then, I think it might just be my city. I thought I'd been hearing on the news that other parts of Michigan had been getting hit really hard.

Down in Southampton the snow wasn't so bad, but my Uni got closed due to people's safety travelling around not being ensured.

Was handled better than last year - Uni was closed for 3 days plus since the council ran out of salt for the roads due to it being redirected elsewhere. So we were sort of prepared I guess...

....again!

I cycled home in it and I was caked in a layer of icy flakes. A silly thing to do, I grant you, but I was in a hurry. It only started 20 minutes ago and it's already at least half an inch.

I was cycling up a hill on the way home and saw two school boys throwing snowballs at a truck. I passed them, and somehow I knew it would happen: they chucked one at me. But missed. So I stopped, got off my bike and faced them. They stood there looking very guilty. I said, "Come here," hoping to have a little word with them abut respect...and they ran off! And didn't stop running until they'd cleared the estate! Too right, you little...

Still heavy outside....and I need to get back to uni! Oy. Not for class, to meet someone for lunch.

It had <b>better</b> not be snowing tomorrow! It was forecast for tomorrow and came today s who knows? This stupid country panics at the smallest sign of anything cold. Tchuh. Fingers crossed!

Got hit by some snow this morning, but it wasn't as thick as last time. Also seem to have a handle on it too - the roads were cleared fairly quickly.
