Anyone hear from Razor One?

Hey guys, has anyone heard from Razor One lately? I keep looking at the maps of the towns affected by the wildfires in Australia, and it's making me a bit twitchy to see how close they are to Melbourne.

Razor, if you see this, let us know you're okay?

And Silver, you lived in a different area, right?

Somebody check on Rainshade too. She lives close to Silver, if I recall.

Razor's last post was on Feb. 3 and Silver's was Feb. 5, just fyi. Pardon me if I am wrong, but doesn't Silver live somewhere in Queensland?

I sent a text to Silver using the number he left in the botcon thread, so hopefully he'll respond to it. I don't have any other contact info for Razor or Rainshade, though.

I hope they're all okay, too.

p.s. I don't know where Silver is atm, Haystack. I think he was either in a different country or at least in a different province right now, but I'd like to hear from all the Aussies just for some peace of mind....

P.p.s So according to Silver's Facebook wall, he's been going between Singapore/Sydney/ South Australia, so he's probably fine (just very busy and tired from traveling).

Hey all, I'm quite safe here in Melbourne, so far most of the fire damage has been restricted to country areas.

Current death toll stands at 131 confirmed dead with a very real fear it could break 200 as reports continue to come in. 750 or so homes destroyed and several towns at least wiped from the map.

The fires started due to record breaking temperatures of 45+ C, the highest on record being at Avalon Airport at 47.9 C (~118 F) and a very strong northerly wind fanning the flames.

Marysville has been declared a crime scene and survivors / escapees have been barred from entry whilst the police and CFA conduct their investigations. While many of the fires are natural there are some that are suspected to have been lit by arsonists. If they're ever tracked down and charged they'll face 25 years prison at least.

Flags have been at half mast for a while now, this has been a bloody tragedy for the state and the country.

And for the record, I have no facebook profile. If there is a Razor on facebook then he's not me.

Update

8 of the 11 fires continue to burn throughout Victoria. The death toll has risen to 135.

The King Lake area is destroyed, Flowerdale is estimated to be 95% devastated and the fires that destroyed the town of Churchill is suspected to have been deliberately lit.

It's suspected that half the fires were deliberately lit, and then relit by arsonists after the fires were put out by firefighters. The investigation is ongoing in this regard.

A story of heroism came out today about a man who (amongst countless others across the state) remained behind to defend his home. When he saw his neighbours house under threat he rushed to assist. The decision probably saved his life as his house was incinerated not long after, the only posession of his remaining being his family dog. Having lost everything after the fire front moved on, he left his neighbours residence on foot (all cars in the area having been gutted).

He happened across an abandoned ute and spent the next six hours checking every property in the area for survivors, rescuing a dozen people and saving a CFA firetruck from oncoming flames.

He in turn was rescued by his brother after succuming to smoke and heat.

The winds have since picked back up and reignited several fires. The state continues to burn.

{Addendum}

One person has already been arrested in relation to the bushfires. Apparently this individual was using power tools on a total fire ban day. This resulted in a spark that started at least one of the fires. He'll be appearing in court on May 21st.

Glad to hear you're alright Razor.

Somewhat disturbed at the news of the severity of the fires, and that some were started by people - I can't believe that someone would deliberately do such a thing.

I've seen a report on the BBC site saying that the toll has risen further to 171, and is expected to rise further. My thoughts are with those who have been affected by this awful event.

Hey kids, everything is fine. I was flown out on Silverforce1 at the first hint of trouble

I'm currently in Singapore as a result of emergency code repairs, and even if I were back home, I'd be quite far from the fires. Thanks for the concern though

I'll check my Aussie phone when I get back to the hotel to see if the messaging worked. At the very least its a good test to see if its possible to send international msgs to my phone.

Hi sorry about the lateness (stupidly long hours at work here in Sing sing at the moment).

As a follow up, it turns out that Nurann's sms didn't get through to my Aussie phone so it probably won't be a relaible form of communication for the con. Look at the Botcon thread to see the new phone number that Baron has got and we'll use that as a point of communication.
