My First Accident

Wonko: Yikes. Again, I'm glad she was all right and a lot people stopped to help her. I wish I could've found my phone just as easily but it was a bit dark out at 6:40am in winter here, and since my convertible top was smashed in to the top of the back seats, it was pitch black back there in the car, so I couldn't see anything. And who knows where my flashlight flew off to.

The car was damaged based on what she told me,and I was happy that she made it out okay in the end.

Awe, that's a shame about the car. But sometimes it better to deem it a total loss than not to and having to pay for repairs or whatever. She must have been pretty upset or scared when it happened.

Sorry to get in so late on this. I tried posting earlier,but got deleated! Yikes! Well,I'm just thankful you got out ok. I hope you can find something you like at a reasonable price.

It's okay, Razorclaw. And thank you very much. I did find a new car but the only thing that's gnawing at my ankles right now is my insurance rates sky rocketing.

I just got back from a trip to Ireland. This was the first topic I read. I gasped really loudly: "OH MY GOD!"

Awe. Come on, there are far more important or entertaining topics to read on the board. It's funny, I did the same thing when I crawled out of my car: "Oh my God, oh my God." XD

I got a lot of that from my co-workers, and my siblings, and other friends, and Garry, and my insurance rep, and my brother's fiance and her dealership co-workers, and... I can't remember them all. My older sister and her husband just got back from New Zealand, so she hadn't seen the photos until just yesterday. She's pretty upset about the bridge and what could have happened. I'm still mad about it! So I think I have some letters to send out. I wonder if I can sue anyone for negligence of the bridge, yesss...

Thank you so much, Sapphire. *hug* I've been really nervous about driving since I got a new car now, but I think I'll be okay. I just need NOTHING to happen for a long time now or I'm going to be screwed with my insurance.

When I first heard of this a few days ago, I admit, I didn't think too much of it. Honestly, my first thought was: "eh, probably just a simple fender-bender" To say I feel like a donkey's rear-end would be accurate right now.

It truly is unbelievable that this entire scenario happened. I agree with Sapphire on this: it seems you've been handling this pretty well.

Well, I've been all right, I guess. I don't plan on ever getting a convertible again. I've had my fun with them so it's time to move on to something a little more safe and practical. I took a car out to test drive last Saturday and I was very nervous. I felt like I was back in school trying to get my driver's license. XD I was really slow with everything, but it was the first time I had driven at all since my accident and now I was in an unfamiliar car.

One of my older brothers who was in an accident a few years ago was reduced to a pretty somber fellow for a little over a week after his accident -- his normal mood is pretty energetic.

Awe. I hope he has been his normal self since then. I guess I'm just happy to be alive. I just tried to be myself since I wasn't injured so badly. I tried talking and joking with the paramedics on the way to the hospital, and laughed at the doctor's jokes while I was there. The only thing that really depressed me was that I lost my car. I loved that car.

By the way, you mentioned you possibly found a new car... Call me a typical male (or something else fitting), but I'm curious, what is it?

...Typical male... Kidding! It's the same car I test drove last Saturday. I was originally looking into Scion xD's but to get one brand new with the options, color, and accessories I wanted was going to be a little pricy. So I looked at this other car that had everything I wanted on an xD but it had a cooler color and it was several thousand dollars cheaper. In the end I bought a used orange metallic 2007 Honda Fit Sport with about 37,300+ miles on it. I like it a lot so far even though I'm still a bit nervous driving it. I'll try to have photos of it this weekend. It's a neat four door hatchback sedan with front wheel drive. ^_^ It has the spoiler, 15" alloy rims, fog lights, sporty body kit and all that jazz.

Blimey, that car is slagged. Must have some sorta angel watching over you.

I live in south-eastern Pennsylvania, CZ. I'm about 20 minutes west of Allentown, or "A-town" as I call it. But this accident happened on Kings Highway in Hosensack, Pennsylvania. Was your cousin anywhere near there on December 4th? I know there were a lot of accidents that morning because of the black ice.

Oh, yeah, definitely. I've swerved on ice many times, usually through turns, and I know my first reaction is always letting go of the gas, but I don't hit the brake either. I honestly can't remember where my foot was when the accident happened, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't on either pedal. I think I just couldn't get out of the fish tailing, and maybe my countersteering made it worse. I don't know! There are no skid marks on the road to see exactly what happened.

XD I don't think it has THAT many cup holders. No DVD player. And it is only front wheel drive, which is still nice to me because I'm used to it and it works nice in the snow. My mom's Jeep Wrangler would be better for the offroad driving. You can see it a little bit in the third photo.

We live in North Carolina ^^; We don't have any black ice...not right now anyway. Our curve, though has quite a history with accidents (we have at least 3 a month) but when the black ice hits it *falls in floor* One guy died when I was little, in my mom's yard...not cool.

The people that wreck on our curve are just lucky everyone down our dirt road is EMTs and firefighters (well...everyone except me but I'm workin on it! =P) so they don't have a long wait for help ^_^;;;;

Ooooh, I see. One of those. We have quite a few turns like that as well with people's houses always getting hit or their yards torn up by people who slip off the road. Yeesh. And THREE a month?! My goodness! No, that's a bit unsettling to have someone die in front of your house or in your arms. I would imagine that changes a person's life to witness that.

Yeah, yeah. North Dakota is always on the Weather Channel for temperatures like that. I don't know how you keep warm there, or start your vehicles!

I don't know! I like both of those but I've never actually named a car before. Some of my co-workers asked if I had named my Eclipse and I said no. It never really crossed my mind. My friend named her car Stewie from Family Guy.
